OVERVIEW  

I was excited to take on a project for a client in the Electrical and Fabrication trade who was looking to update their branding and website. The project involved a complete rebranding effort, starting with a new logo that effectively conveyed the client's business and expertise.

Creating a modern and user-friendly Webiste

To create a modern and user-friendly website experience, I focused on designing an updated website for desktop and mobile that emphasized ease of use and intuitive navigation. I conducted user research and used information architecture principles to create a site that was easy to use and navigate, with clear calls to action that directed users to the client's services.

Information Architecture

When designing a website, i wanted to consider the hierarchy of information, grouping related information together, and labeling content in a clear and consistent manner. This can improve the user experience and impact search engine optimization (SEO) and overall website performance.

 

By structuring the information on the old website, in a way that is intuitive and easy for users to navigate, customers online will have a better and more pleasant user journey and experience.

User Research &
Competitive Analysis

OBJECTIVE

To gather insights into the needs and preferences of users and competitors for a new website for the client.
Also, the old website was outdated and needed new branding and an SEO boost.

METHODOLOGY

  1. Online survey: A survey will be distributed to the client's existing and potential customers to gather insights into their needs, preferences, and pain points when it comes to the services offered by the client. The survey will also ask about their experience with the client's existing website, including what they liked and disliked about it. Additionally, we will ask for their opinion on the competitors' websites and how they compare to the client's website.

  2. In-depth interviews: In-depth interviews will be conducted with a sample of users to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and behaviors. The interviews will explore topics such as how they search for and evaluate service providers, what information they expect to find on a service provider's website, and what features they would like to see on the new website. Moreover, we will ask the interviewees about the competitors' websites and their opinions about them.

  3. Competitive Analysis: We will analyze the websites of the client's competitors, examining their design, content, features, functionality, and overall user experience. The analysis will help us identify what the competitors are doing well and where the client can improve to stay ahead of the competition.

  4. Usability testing: A usability testing session will be conducted with a sample of users to test the usability and effectiveness of the new website design. Participants will be asked to complete a series of tasks on the website while their interactions and feedback will be recorded. Additionally, we will ask the participants to compare the client's website with those of the competitors, providing valuable insights into how the client's website compares to the competition.

OUTCOMES

  1. A better understanding of the target audience's needs and preferences, which will inform the design of the new website.

  2. Insights into what users expect to see on the website, such as content, features, and functionality.

  3. Identification of pain points and areas for improvement in the existing website, which will inform the redesign process.

  4. Feedback on the usability and effectiveness of the new website design, which will inform any necessary adjustments before launch.

Icon Design

To enhance the visual appeal and usability of the site, I also created custom icons that effectively represented the client's different services. The icons helped to improve the overall user experience by providing a clear and visually-appealing way for users to quickly identify the client's offerings.

Branding & Style Guide

Finally, to ensure consistency across all branding and design materials, I created a comprehensive style guide that outlined the new branding and design standards. The guide provided guidelines for the use of color, typography, and imagery to ensure that the client's brand was effectively represented across all channels.

Overall, the project was a success and resulted in a refreshed and modern website that accurately represented the client's expertise and services. By utilizing my UI and UX expertise, I was able to create a site that not only looked great but also provided a seamless and intuitive user experience.
